Questions
and Answers
You may have questions.
Here are some of the most common questions and our answers. Please
call us if you would like details or if you have other questions.
Q.
How do I know the adoptive parents will be able to care for my
child?
A.
The Adoption Options staff of skilled adoption workers
makes a point of getting to know adoptive parents well enough
to understand their ability to love and nurture a child. We screen
them carefully to make sure there are no doubts about their sincere
desire and ability to care for the child's needs before we consider
placing a child.
We'll listen to what you want for your child and do our best to
match you with an adoptive family that fits your ideas as closely
as possible.
Q.
How will I be able to find out about how my child is doing?
A.
It depends on the amount of openness you and the adoptive parents
choose. Adoption Options might act as a go-between to protect
everyone's privacy. Each of you tells us how much contact you
want and we match those who share the same feelings. We want everyone
to feel comfortable with the arrangement.
Q.
How much do I need to tell you about myself?
A.
You are a caring participant in planning for your child's well
being. The information you share with us is important. Helpful
information might include sharing family medical history, telling
us about special talents and abilities, hopes and dreams.
Q.
Is my child safe, loved, cared for, happy?
A.
Careful screening, as well as a matching of your preferences about
the kind of adoptive family you want for your child, provide the
best chance for your child's well-being. Your active role in choosing
the kind of family you want for your child will improve the chances
that your child will be in the type of home you envision. Because
we are a nonprofit agency, financial motives are not a factor
in our placements. Our main goal is providing for the best interest
of the child.
Q.
What if my child has special needs?
A.
We believe there are loving parents available for every child
and we will do our best to find them. We have access to many resources
that can provide additional services, if needed.
Q.
What happens after I make an adoption plan for my child?
A.
We make sure you have access to skilled counseling or other services
you may need. You will have made a difficult decision, choosing
a future path for your child. It may take time for you to sort
out your feelings and we are here to help.
